Competency Based Training Fund Making an Impact

The Competency Based Training Fund Management Unit (CMU), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (METI) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) hosted its 2nd Graduation ceremony on June 1, 2017.This ceremony celebrated the successful certification of over 700 graduates in National/Caribbean Vocational Qualifications by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council.

Minister of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development, Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, said that the pilot project has now blossomed into a successful programme. “I witnessed the dedication and tenacity of the employers in ensuring that their staff receive the requisite training which would not only mean that the workers’ skills and competencies would be enhanced, but ultimately that these new competencies would redound to the benefits of their organization.”

Also addressing the graduates was Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Senator Harcourt Husbands, who said initiatives like the CBTF improve the efficiency in the economy. He further stated that the Fund had surpassed his expectation and had fully matured.
