The Third International Conference on TVET in the Caribbean took place during May 10th - 12th, 2017, in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The objective of this conference was to provide a platform for integrating regional and international policies on TVET, and to increase the awareness and deepen the understanding of the role of TVET in the sustainable development of Caribbean countries.
Mr. K. Anderson Lowe, Manager of the Competency Based Training Fund Management Unit attended the conference and presented a conference paper entitled “The Competency-Based Training Fund: Improving the Quality and Relevance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Barbados.”
This paper highlighted the achievements of the four competitive cycles launched by the CBTF and emphasized the contribution of the Fund to the improvement of the quality of the TVET educational system in Barbados. In addition, the paper revealed the lessons learned through the various partnerships and highlighted some of the success stories of the Fund. A key lesson which was learned was how to successfully bring the private sector and training institutions together to effectively implement TVET training and certification programmes.
